New Trains Project - Docklands Light Railway
In May 2023, TLJ Training Solutions was asked to lead a team to develop the training solution to support the introduction into service of a new fleet of 54 trains. Under Tony’s guidance, the team of eight specialists have been responsible for all aspects of analysis, design, development and delivery of conversion training across all affected roles, ensuring that they were ready to accept the first trains into service, September 2025.
Developed through extensive interactions with Original Equipment Manufacturers, the train provider, CAF and utilising technical documentation, the team has developed engaging and effective conversion training modules for Maintainers, Technicians, First Line Responders and Vehicle Operators. Part of the solution involves extensive use of an immersive train cabin simulator where Vehicle Operators can practice all aspects of their operational role in a controlled and safe environment.
Training will be completed by the end of April 2026, by which time over 500 personnel will have been successfully converted through 180 weeks of training delivery utilising over 75 bespoke modules.
Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Enlisted Specialities Restructuring
Operating through Selex ES Saudi Arabia, TLJ Training Solutions led a team of Saudi Nationals and UK specialists on a three-year programme to restructure the RSAF Directorate of Communications and Information Technology (DCIT). Success was achieved by a adopting a six phase, iterative approach methodology which provided customer assurance across analysis, solution development, training, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
The final solution resulted in a rationalisation from 14 roles to three core skills areas, with new training developed to support each of these core areas. The project was completed on time and within budget and is continuing to provide improved operational efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility for the organisation and individuals.
Support to Military Projects
Over an extensive training career, Tony has been at the forefront of many innovative military, training solutions, designed to meet the exact needs of the customer. Examples include Future Integrated Soldier Technology (FIST), where the solution was designed to be delivered in all weathers on outdoor rifle ranges through to a bespoke designed training facility for the Royal Artillery’s Watchkeeper UAV programme, which included a full task simulator. In all instances, analysing the customers' needs was at the heart of the solution, ensuring effective training interventions aligned to exact customer requirements.
